Soror Valerie Benton Smith is a highly respected member of the renowned Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter, celebrated for its national and international acclaim. Based in Annapolis, Maryland, this Legendary chapter is the largest in the Northeastern Region and proudly serves Anne Arundel County.

Soror Valerie Benton Smith is a highly respected member of the renowned Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter, celebrated for its national and international acclaim. Based in Annapolis, Maryland, this Legendary chapter is the largest in the Northeastern Region and proudly serves Anne Arundel County.
Currently, Soror Valerie serves as Co-Chairperson of the Awards & Achievement Committee, Sub-Committee Chair for the Souvenir Journal, and Judge for the Legendary Debutante Pageant & Ball. She also represents her chapter as a Delegate to the 83rd Northeastern Regional Conference and contributes actively to the Social Media, Scholarship, Branding, and Membership Committees.
Her recent leadership roles include serving as the Centennial Basileus for the Transcendent Theta Mu Sigma Chapter from 2022 to 2024. Prior to this, she held key positions as Centennial Chaplain and 2nd Anti-Basileus from 2020 to 2022 and represented her chapter as a delegate at both the 78th and 79th Northeastern Regional Conferences.
Soror Valerie’s commitment to service is evident in her leadership as Chairperson for numerous impactful initiatives, including Triad Founders Day (where she served as Mistress of Ceremony), the Triad End of the Year Virtual Party (as Hostess), and several community-focused programs such as Domestic Violence Awareness, Community Partnerships, and the 25th Charter Day Celebration.
Her influence has also extended through her work with the Pan-Hellenic Council of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, where she served as Marketing Chairperson, Social Action Chairperson, Founders Day Chairperson, and Committee Member for Scholarships and the Greek Cookout.
Her extensive service history includes active membership in the Alpha Mu Sigma and Beta Lambda Sigma Chapters, where she served as a Delegate, Committee Chair, and Anti-Grammateus for Alpha Mu Sigma. From 2004 to 2024, Soror Valerie has been a consistent and dedicated participant in Area Meetings, Mid-Winter Meetings, Northeastern Regional Conferences, and Boule Trainings/Workshops.
Soror Valerie’s unwavering dedication to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. is reflected in her two decades of active participation in sorority meetings, regional conferences, fellowship activities, community service, professional development, and leadership training from 2004 to 2024.

Soror Valerie Benton Smith became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at 12:22 PM, earning the title “Ms. Strictly Business” as the Ace of her Torch class. With an impressive legacy that includes 11 Sorors in her family, she recently celebrated a historic milestone by welcoming the first Rhoer into their Sigma lineage.
Soror Valerie’s impact on the Sorority and the broader community is marked by transformational leadership and groundbreaking achievements. She led initiatives that engaged over 2,000 participants in Domestic Violence Awareness programs and established strategic partnerships with organizations such as the Greater North Carolina Black Chamber of Commerce. Her digital footprint has garnered nearly 18 million views on Google, amplifying her message far and wide.
Among her many accomplishments, she organized a Rock the Vote event that attracted over 300 participants, and spearheaded Truckeroo, an event designed to raise awareness for Black-owned food truck businesses. This event gained widespread media coverage, being featured on Fox News and landing on the cover of the Triad Beat. She also quadrupled financial growth, creating greater opportunities to impact the community. Her dedication to growth and inclusion helped triple chapter membership, bringing in both new and reactivated members.
In a historic achievement, Soror Valerie secured approval from the 26th International Grand Basileus Marica T. Harris—during her tenure as the 22nd Northeastern Region Syntaktes—to allow online and regional collegiate students the opportunity to join graduate chapters. She also played a key role in gaining formal recognition from NC Government Official Evelyn Terry, House of Representatives, honoring Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. as a leader in Organizational Development, Leadership, and Community Service.
History was made when two proclamations were awarded in one day by the City of Winston-Salem— Mayor Allen Joines and presented by the late Mayor Pro Tempore Vivian Burke and NC House of Representatives Evelyn Terry—commending the Sorority’s outstanding service and leadership.
Further demonstrating her dedication to the legacy of Sigma Gamma Rho, Soror Valerie served on the Inaugural Legendary Debutante Pageant & Ball Committee as the Sub-Committee Chairperson for the Souvenir Journal and, also served as a Judge for the Inaugural Legendary Debutante Pageant & Ball. She also obtained a Resolution from the Greater North Carolina Black Chamber of Commerce congratulating the Legendary Debutantes on their excellence and community impact.

In addition, she is a Kundalini Reiki Practitioner, Life Coach, Regional President of the Greater NC Black Chamber of Commerce, and former Educational Consultant for Dudley Cosmetology University.
